Henri IV - An unfinished reign

Anne de Joyeuse

Anne de Joyeuse (1560–1587), baron d’Arques, and vicomte and later duc de Joyeuse.

He was a favourite of Henri III, who showered him with money and honours. He took part in military operations in Poitou in 1587, and forced Henri IV's army into a confrontation. The battle took place at Coutras on 20 October 1587, during which Henri III's troops were massacred, and Anne de Joyeuse and his brother were killed.
