Henri IV - An unfinished reign

Guillaume Dupré

Guillaume Dupré was a renowned French sculptor and medal-maker.

The son-in-law of the sculptor Barthélemy Prieur, he entered the service of Henri IV in 1597. He created several medals (Henri IV-Hercules and Gabrielle d’Estrées; Henri IV and Marie de Médicis), as well as two busts (one in wax) and a full-length statue of Henri in his armour. After Henri IV was assassinated, Dupré and two other sculptors were charged with making a death mask of the sovereign.
