Henri IV - An unfinished reign

Jacques II Androuet du Cerceau

Ca. 1550-1614

Jacques II Androuet du Cerceau was part of a family of architects and sculptors of the 16th and 17th centuries.

He was the eldest son of Jacques I Androuet du Cerceau, the great 16th century architect, and brother of Baptistes Androuet du Cerceau, architect of Henri III and Superintendent of Finances in 1578. After undertaking work on the Louvre at the request of Henri III, Henri IV made Jacques II the first superintendent of the Bâtiments du Roi in 1596, and he subsequently worked on a great many royal buildings.
