Henri IV - An unfinished reign

Père Coton

Coton was a Jesuit preacher and confessor. In 1603, he became Henri IV's confessor, and was entrusted with the education of the Dauphin (and later became his confessor as well). He had a great deal of influence, and even managed to have the Jesuit expulsion order rescinded, which had been decreed by the Parlement de Paris in 1594, following the assassination attempt by Jean Chastel (Edict of Rouen, 1603).
